Rabbi Debbie Bodin

Rabbi Deborah Bodin Cohen

Rabbi Deborah Bodin Cohen (Debbie) was born and raised in Maryland. She attended University of Michigan, graduating from the Honors English Program. After working in Washington, DC, at various public interest groups including the Religious Action Center of Reform Judaism, Rabbi Cohen studied at Hebrew Union College in Jerusalem and New York.

Since ordination in 1997, Rabbi Cohen has served Beth Shalom in Cary, NC, Temple Emanuel in Cherry Hill, NJ and Har Shalom in Potomac. For the past year, she has been a part-time interim rabbi at Ohef Sholom Congregation in Norkfolk, VA. Rabbi Cohen has published seven Jewish children’s books, a teen novel and two teacher manuals. She has another children’s book in production, scheduled to be published in Summer 2017. She has received numerous literary prizes, including a National Jewish Book Award. She is the founder and owner of the Story House, a mobile bookstore for children and teens. Rabbi Cohen has been involved in numerous communal and interfaith organizations; currently, she serves on the Rockville Human Rights Commission.

Rabbi Cohen and her husband David, a journalist, are joyfully raising three children Arianna, Jesse and Ezra in Rockville. A rather unruly Collie, named Indigo, completes the family.
