Beth Chai » The Greater Washington Jewish Humanist Congregation

About Us

Founded in 1978, Beth Chai Jewish Humanist Congregation of Greater Washington is a vibrant, independent community drawing its membership from all over the Washington, DC, metropolitan area. Beth Chai offers its members a wide variety of educational and cultural activities and services.

With the leadership of Rabbi Art Blecher and Education Director Roni Rosenthal, we celebrate the major Jewish holidays and feature an excellent Sunday School for Pre-K through 8th Grade, a Bar/Bat Mitzvah program, and community activities. We have an active Adult Education program that meets on Sunday mornings, as well as a monthly Friday evening program that includes Shabbat services. We are actively engaged in the outside world through Social Action and Tzedakah, and we put effort into building our own community, sponsoring frequent social activities and celebrations. Beth Chai publishes a weekly online newsletter and makes resources on Jewish topics available through a lending library.

Our congregation is devoted to understanding and expressing Jewish heritage and culture in the light of humanistic principles and values. We deepen our Jewish identity by interpreting the history and traditions of Jewish civilization in a modern spirit, affirming each person's freedom to choose his or her own spiritual beliefs.

Come celebrate Jewish traditions and holidays with us, and join us in the education of our children. In this site you'll find out more about Beth Chai.
